A popular quiz question is: what’s the capital of Australia? If you answered Sydney or Melbourne then it’s time to discover the real answer – Canberra. With Parliament House at its core, Canberra fans out across both sides of Lake Burley Griffin to reveal a diverse mix of museums, restaurants and bars filled with curious tourists, political persons and public servants.
Canberra was created as a solution to Australia’s 2 largest cities squabbling over the right to become the national capital. The Limestone Plains region in New South Wales was chosen as the site for present day Canberra. It was a good choice for nature lovers as it is surrounded by bushland, mountain ranges and, more recently, wineries.
The National Gallery, National Museum and National Library of Australia highlight Canberra’s cultural riches. Other notable institutions to visit are the High Court of Australia and the National Film and Sound Archive that stockpiles a collection of Australia’s early radio, television and film history.
The military also plays a significant role here with many training facilities for the army such as the Australian Defence Force Academy. An unforgettable experience is attending the Anzac Day Dawn service at The Australian War Memorial.
Australia’s cultural capital with a political punch has many hotels, motels and apartments on Booking.com for that city trip, business jaunt or family holiday.

This hotel and their staff are absolutely thief my credit card details were hacked and a room was booked using my credit credit details even though the room was never used they just refused to refund the money. Kept blaming booking.com and complaining the fact they don’t like people using booking.com to book hotels. The management I spoke with had absolutely no understanding for my situation and showed absolutely no empathy. I’m not even going to start on booking m.com and their disgusting customer service refusing to take any responsibility whatsoever. Will never again use either of them.

Lots of things to see - Museum, art gallery etc, all close to each other. Some things are further afield and worth seeing, so a car is very useful/necessary. I discovered the buses don't take cash and I would have to apply for a travel card 7-10 days in advance to get it in the mail! They don't take credit cards either (apparently that is coming in November 2024, but not much use to me when my friends weren't able to give me a lift as planned!) I can't believe a city that wants visitors makes it IMPOSSIBLE to go anywhere by bus or light train!

Canberra is an easy getaway from Sydney.
Found enough to do for a couple of days and a good variety of restaurants and venues.
Very relax place to just explore and take a break away with some interesting places to see and visit for different reasons.
Also there are plenty of outdoor things to do, did go Mountain biking as the tracks are awesome.
Worth a visit, when you can

Canberra is a wonderful city to visit.
Canberra is a wonderful city to visit. Heaps to see and do with some fabulous restaurants. Gorgeous in the Autumn, especially on the lake. Take into account there is a lot of construction happening in the city so some attractions like the War Memorial are a bit less than they can be. The extension to the light rail is still under construction but will be fabulous when it's done.

Love Canberra.
Love Canberra. Used to live in Canberra and now retired to the country. Still visit Canberra regularly due to family still living there. Lot of people give Canberra lots of negativity, but the city is beautiful and a great place to visit.
This property is great value for money given the service and accomodation it provides. This was my second time staying at this hotel and each time I have found the front desk customer service to be excellent. The bar at the top of the hotel is quite nice and has a great view. The hotel is also located in the nicest part of Canberra not far from Manuka and Kingston. Avoid staying in the ‘city’ (civic) as it’s bland, unappealing and only worth visiting for the shopping centre and a couple of bars.
The wonderful helpful, thoughtful staff who went out of their way to make this a wonderful stay. Large room overlooking the beautiful gardens. really comfortable beds, a bath, windows that open so we had fresh air and didn’t need the air conditioner. Quiet. access to the Hale well-being centre which is part of the hotel. Great gym. I’ve stayed in many hotels in Canberra and have been coming here for many years. The Brassey has been by far the best and the best value.
Great location next to the airport - just a short walk. Funky designed hotel - large rooms with spacious bathrooms. Meals were very good (not the cheapest) but worth the money. The breakfast had a lot of options and was very filling for a day of sightseeing in Canberra. Less than 10 mins in a cab into the CBD. Flight arrivals and departures board in the lobby area which was useful for our outbound flight, given there were numerous cancellations that morning
Jacqui was so helpful and quick to respond to any request. We like to stay places that have a unique personality, not just generic hotel rooms. The Green Rooms is very cleverly designed and fitted out beautifully. A gorgeous cosy retreat to come back to after your adventures in Canberra. I'd like to thank Jacqui for her hospitality, even though we were paying to be there, it felt so personal.
Brassey Hotel is perfectly located for a short visit to Canberra. Close to all major attractions & restaurant areas; Manuka & Kingston. We utilised on site "Share Bike" facility enabling a ride around the lake.
Jake on reception was very prompt in obtaining a top sheet for the bed when requested.
This is the 12th time we stayed at the hotel. It is an amazing hotel, in Canberra centre. The breakfast is quite good and the staff are amazing. It is truly their people in Crowne Plaza Canberra which makes us come back every time.
Location was great and hotel was clean. Service staff were great and the rooftop bar was very nice. Unfortunately the rooftop bar closed after 6pm due to a private event but we will definitely go back next time we are in Canberra
Location is perfect. It’s right in the middle of the city, walking distance from Canberra Centre and many other shops, cafes and restaurants. The room is very clean, comfortable and up to the standards of Quest hotels.
Great ambiance in the lounge/bar. Clean rooms. Tastefully decorated hotel in general. The free mini bar was an unexpected plus! Very close to the lake and a run/workout. Good breakfast and very friendly staff.
We had dinner. Food was excellent.
Service was excellent and professional.
Breakfast offering was probably the best we
experienced in any of the hotels stays during our visit
to Southern Australia.
Loved the room outlook, and the friendliness of staff second to none. Red Salt breakfast was amazing each morning, and the hotel central to all Canberra activities.
I like how the hotel was close proximity of all the things we wanted to visit in Canberra.
Staff were friendly and the hotel great value for money during our stay.
Check in easy. Room cleanliness very good - the hotel building is relatively new. Location very handy to city and within easy distance of most Canberra highlights.
